Weekly Tips on Improving Academics

If you are a parent looking for ways to help your child improve his or her academics, there are several things you can do. The following advice is based on what I have observed during my 20-plus years in education as a teacher.

First, get involved by attending Parent/Teacher conferences and other school meetings and events. Second, communicate regularly with your child’s teacher through emails, send notes, or call during the teacher’s conference hour to ask questions or see how your child is doing. Third, check homework; set a time frame for homework to be done. Fourth, encourage your child verbally or with rewards when he or she does well; consider increasing his or her allowance a little for good or improved grades. Fifth, keep all tests and report cards in a file at home. Finally, set realistic goals (not too high) to keep track of your child’s progress.

By carrying out the above suggestions regularly, you may vastly improve your child’s chances for being successful in school and in life.
