I feel the need to communicate with you on the important issue of emergency/unexpected closing of school. I have received input from both parents and staff members on this topic. As a school, we are sensitive of the many plans for childcare that come with snow and other emergency closings. I want to take a few moments to outline our procedures for closings and early dismissals and respectfully request your understanding and support.
In the event of incidents such as adverse weather or power failure, every attempt will be made to keep school open in order to minimize disruption to teaching & learning. However, the prime objective will be the health and safety of students and staff. Under such circumstances we will carry out a risk assessment, taking account of the conditions on site to ascertain if it is safe to keep the school open. Considerations for closure will include the following:
Safety of the building (i.e., heating, cooling, etc.)
Availability of teaching staff
Availability of key non-teaching staff (e.g. maintenance, food service, etc.)
Current weather conditions and weather forecast
Please be reminded students should log into their Education City, Study Island, Raz-Kids and Khan Academy accounts.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email at [email protected].
Have a good afternoon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Tyron D. Hurd, Administrator
