It is important that parents/guardians teach their child study skills in the elementary grades. To be sure, studying for a test can be very scary for a young child, and many teachers take it for granted that the parent/guardian will help their child study for a test. Any parent or guardian who introduces their child to good study skills in the elementary grades will bring about good learning habits throughout the child’s life.
In elementary school, your child, as a rule, take end-of-unit tests in math, spelling, science, and social studies. Therefore, it is important that you, as the parent or guardian, know when a test is scheduled so you can help your child study ahead of time rather than waiting to study the night before the test. You may also need to remind your child to bring home the right study materials, such as notes, study guides, or books. Also, keep on hand any or all quizzes or tests taken during this particular unit, so your child can review or work through any problems they may have encountered on them.
